More babies!!!

A Mazal Tov to Noam & Julia Shamir on the birth Wednesday afternoon of a baby boy. Both mother and baby are doing well.

Perhaps Stan Sussman can confirm, but I do not remember three births in five days in the community. Kein Yirbu!

A Report on the Lego Menorah

Report on the Lego Menorah

By Chaya

Chaya

We had an amazing Menorah lighting in Palo Alto this past Sunday in front of City Hall, featuring our Lego Menorah. It was quite an amazing sight!

As an introduction, we must thank G-d for our very own Chanuka miracle.

Simcha, Chabad's program director checked the weather multiple times daily the week before the event – and there was a grim forecast. Rain. Showers. Storms. Not the ideal weather for an outdoor Menorah lighting. With a failed attempt to get tents and tarps etc… we knew that our fate was in G-d's hands.

We prayed and prayed and G-d heard our prayers! Sunday morning we awoke to the sunniest day in weeks! The weather was clear and we could breathe again and go forth with the preparations!

People started arriving early just to take part in building Palo Alto's first ever Lego Menorah. Kids from all over Palo Alto pitched in to build it, under Yossi Raphaelson's expert guidance.

The crowd was growing and excitement was mounting with anticipation of the completion of the Menorah. By 5:00 o'clock it was ready to be lit. By this time the more than 300 participants were happily supplied with piping hot cider, freshly made latkes, and super sweet cotton candy.   Aryeh Ioffe sang the blessings over the Menorah beautifully and Rabbi Levin lit Palo Alto's masterpiece. Face painting, balloons and a raffle were all exciting features of this program… and we can safely say that every one had a good time.

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who worked hard and helped to make this happen! And thank you to every one who participated and made this the best Chanuka event ever!

Happy Chanuka!

News from Israel

We visited the Bronsteins in Israel. B’H’, they live in Beit shemesh and are very happy there. They are sending a BIG happy smile to everybody in Palo Alto. They live in a beautiful new house with an amazing view to some hills far away. Alex learns Torah every morning at the shul just a few feet away from their house. It felt to me as if the Bronsteins received a little fore-taste of the Geula. May we all join them in Israel very soon…

News from Alex shekhtman

As many of you know. Alex decided to move to Israel a few months ago. Like most of those who did Alya, he loves it there. He is studying in a Yeshiva in Tzfat and visiting Israel with his newly found Yeshiva’s friends… Here is an email from him:

Hello All,

I have many pictures that I have been taking. I finally found some time to convert a whole bunch of them into smaller sized ones (awful print quality).

If you like anyone of them, let me know and maybe I can send you one or two of the full sized 5 megapixel pictures (full quality print).

Alternatively, you may go to my website: http://www.shekhtman.com, which I hope to update with the pictures and some info about each one (in addition to building my website for other purposes).

All the Best,

--Alex

We made contact!

(650) 858 1058

The Bronsteins made contact with us last night. First time since their move to Israel. B’H’ they are doing well and they love it there. They managed to create a skype number here in the US that happens to be the same number as their previous home phone number. So, you can call them by dialling their previous Palo Alto number: (650) 858 1058. That should ring into their skype account. If they don’t pick up, you can always leave a message…

Yes... It's old news now...

But I finally got some pictures of Chavie & Donny’s engagement party to share with you:

CAMPUS FOR JEWISH LIFE

The proposed Campus for Jewish Life at the old Sun campus on San Antonio and Charleston is now slated for a City Council hearing on September 11. Although no problems are anticipated, a large turnout at the hearing is always an effective way to show public support.

Also, emails are welcome. They can be sent to City Planner Steven Turner at [email protected]. Be sure to CC' our old friends Jim Baer at [email protected] and Shelley Hebert at [email protected].

KIRYAT SHMONA RELIEF EFFORTS

KIRYATSHMONAKiryat Shmona, an impoverished city on Israel's northern border has been hit with over hundreds of rockets over the past month. The number of poor in the city, who have lost their jobs and sometimes all of their property due to the conflict, is huge. Many times, they can't even afford to buy food for their family.

Even though the fighting has stopped, the poor people of Kiryat Shmona still need to be fed. They need your help now more than ever.

Rabbi Tzippori runs a charity kitchen in Kiryat Shmona and he needs our help to actually feed thousands a day. His kitchen needs our financial support so that he may be able to continue feeding the increasing number of poor people in Kiryat Shmona in the months to come.

If you would like to give a donation, please make a check payable to Chabad Kiryat Shmona.

Send it to:

Orna Morad

4157 Solana Drive

Palo Alto, CA, 94306-3169

BoyYou will receive a receipt from Chabad for your tax deductible donation.

If you have any questions, please email Orna Morad at [email protected].
